The United Nations Resident Coordinator pays a courtesy visit to the VP

The United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Maldives, Catherine Haswell, paid a courtesy call on Vice President Faisal Naseem.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator met with the Vice President on Sunday. The meeting took place in the president’s office.

During the meeting, the Resident Coordinator and the Vice President had discussions on strengthening social sector services in the Maldives.

During the meeting, Vice President Naseem expressed his deep appreciation to the UN agencies for their support for the socio-economic development of the Maldives, climate change, human rights and democracy. He highlighted the generous aid and societal support provided to the Maldives during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Vice President and the UN Resident Coordinator also discussed issues of mutual interest, such as concerns about growing mental health issues in the Maldives following the pandemic and how to better support people with special needs. .

In addition, the Vice President and the UN Resident Coordinator held discussions on topics such as Maldives economic activities, tourism, climate change, women’s empowerment and gender equality.

The UN Resident Coordinator reiterated the UN’s commitment to work with the government to strengthen the country’s social sector, citing the importance of building resilient communities to better prepare for crises and improve management and coordination between all stakeholders.

Concluding the call, the Vice President assured the UN of the Administration’s commitment to work diligently with its agencies on core issues of mutual importance.
