ELLSWORTH – Healthy Acadia, in partnership with the City of Ellsworth, hired a coordinator to connect local businesses with support resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sonya Connelly is the Business Outreach Coordinator in Ellsworth this fall as part of the publicly funded Keep ME Healthy initiative. Working with city staff, she provides proactive education and support to businesses in Ellsworth regarding COVID-19 public health best practices and helps identify challenges and required resources for businesses, including access personal protective equipment (PPE) for their staff and customers.
Connelly, who has lived, worked and volunteered in Ellsworth for the past five years, has developed strong community ties.
“I have gotten to know so many people and I enjoy the relationships I have developed so much,” said Connelly. “I have volunteered with Healthy Acadia over the years and have always been very impressed with the support it provides to our communities. I was thrilled when the opportunity arose to work with Healthy Acadia and City Hall. I want to help help Ellsworth get through this pandemic. “
Connelly has extensive experience in the nonprofit world in community development and counseling, as well as in the corporate world in human resources and training. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Indiana Wesleyan University and obtained her Masters in Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary. She looks forward to connecting with Ellsworth business owners and supporting the community.
“I am inspired by this community and I want our small businesses to know how necessary and vital they are to us. I feel so lucky to be part of a team that strives to keep this community safe and supportive. “
