A pub manager has hit back at a criticism from a raging customer over the lack of Sunday roasts and the attitude of staff by saying it was the diners who left one of the waiters ‘in tears’.
The client had visited The Junction in Birmingham for a 76th birthday celebration – but said his visit was ‘hugely disappointing’.
The client took to Tripadvisor to complain that there were ‘almost no more Sunday roasts’ while adding ‘rude staff, lack of accountability and immature outlook from managers’.
The Junction in Harborne’s High Street has a 3.5 rating on Tripadvisor – with nearly 350 independent reviews – many of them very positive, reported BirminghamLive.
A recent reviewer described it as “great food, great staff and a pleasant atmosphere” and another praised the venue for serving a “decent roast dinner”.
But one customer was not happy at all and wrote on Tripadvisor: ‘No roasts, almost no choice on the menu at 4pm on Sunday – why did you take a birthday reservation for 12 people?’
They said: “We arrived for our dad’s 76th birthday celebration to be told there were hardly any Sunday roasts left, let alone other items on the menu to choose from.
“Unpleasant staff, lack of accountability and immature outlook from managers and poorly judged customer service in every way. Extremely disappointing.
“Naïve and embarrassing business acumen for everyone involved. We’ve been drinking in this pub for years, we wanted to show our loyalty by booking a dinner, we were expecting great things and to have this experience today was a moment difficult for The Junction.”
And the general manager of The Junction, named Helen, hit back on the Tripadvisor website and complained about the rude behavior of diners.
She said: “Hello. Unfortunately on the day of your visit we did not have our roast chicken available, due to supply chain issues it was out of our hands.
“However, we had other roast options and our normal menu items available as your server tried to explain to you at your table.
“I’m really disappointed that you said our team was rude. Throughout your short visit to us, the team did their best to provide you with the excellent service we provide to all of our customers, but your treatment towards the team left one of them in tears and the others discouraged by your attitude towards them.
“This kind of behavior towards the team is not tolerated as I explained to you that day, and will certainly not be welcome in the future. Sincerely, Helen.”
