Police support officer assaulted by youths in York

An investigation is underway following a disturbance at Foxwood in York in which a PCSO was attacked.

It took place last night (Monday). A large number of young people gathered between 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.

Officers witnessed the incident and while they were dealing with the incident, the PCSO was assaulted. They are now receiving support and there have also been several breaches of public order as well as anti-social behavior.

Young people gathered on Askham Lane, Westfield Place and Westfield Park. Officers have now opened an investigation into the incident. This investigation consists of examining the video worn on the bodies of the officers involved.

Principal Commander for York, Superintendent Mark Khan North Yorkshire Police said: ‘This type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated on the streets of York.

“I am appalled that a member of police personnel was assaulted during this incident.”

He added: “This member of staff is now receiving support and we will take swift action to deal with those responsible.

“Once again, I urge members of the local community to work with the police and immediately pass on any information that may help our live investigation.”
