Medical coordinator (F/M) – Ethiopia – Ethiopia

For more than 40 years, Médecins du Monde, a militant medical organization committed to international solidarity, has taken care of the most vulnerable populations in France and abroad. He continued to highlight the barriers that exist in access to health care and achieved lasting improvements in health-for-all policies.

The actors of this independent organization do not only provide care and care but denounce attacks on dignity and human rights and fight to improve the situation of populations in precarious situations.

MdM currently works in 30 countries on all continents where it focuses on 5 priority areas: emergency and crisis, sexual and reproductive health, risk reduction, migrants and displaced populations (right to health), health and environment.

Currently MdM France in Ethiopia operates in 3 regions:

  • Afar region with a program to reduce gender-based violence among sex workers funded by the French Development Agency until 2024. Since 2022, MdM has been working in the border areas between the Afar and Tigray regions affected by hostilities In progress.
  • Oromia and Somali regions to improve access to quality health services thanks to ECHO funds leading a consortium with COOPI and MdM Germany.
  • Finally, MdM France aims to open operations in the Tigray region in order to meet the humanitarian needs linked to the conflict.


Under the supervision of the general coordinator and in collaboration with the health adviser at headquarters, you supervise the development, implementation, monitoring and supervision of the medical and health activities of MdM France in Ethiopia, including the monitoring of the partners of the MdM consortium. You directly supervise the assistant medical coordinator and the pharmacist.

Your main responsibilities are:

Team management

  • Plan and facilitate briefings, assessments and debriefings of medical teams
  • Technically manage program teams in the field
  • Identify potential gaps and promote capacity building of the medical team
  • Assist implementing partners to identify training and capacity building
  • Ensure availability of emergency kits and first aid kits at all bases and coordination
  • Ensure SOPs for management of accidental occupational blood exposure (AEB) are in place

Program support

  • Ensure that the various components of the program are coherent and in line with the needs of the population and put in place corrective measures if necessary
  • Support field teams in the analysis of medical data
  • Provide the medical team with the necessary and relevant directives
  • Monitor the implementation of medical activities by partners
  • Produce a monthly report


  • Analyze and track medical and health-related data, update MdM’s internal database and ensure the reliability and consistency of this data
  • Prepare TORs and write field visit reports
  • Participate in the drafting of donor reports and project proposals

Coordination with stakeholders

  • Participate in meetings and clusters related to MdM’s program and strategies, ensure good coordination and advocacy
  • Establish collaborations and partnerships with other stakeholders

Pharmacy stocks

  • Ensure that the mission has a standard list of essential medicines updated by project
  • Ensure the management of the pharmacy
  • Ensure that the entire pharmacy management process complies with MdM policy


  • Status : Employee
  • Contract: Fixed-term contract
  • Duration : 6 months

  • Gross monthly salary: 3,175 euros
  • Bonus equal to one month’s salary paid in two instalments – minimum 6 months seniority required

  • Doctor, nurse, midwife with training in public health
  • 2 years of experience in a similar position in an INGO
  • Experience with MdM is a major asset
  • Previous experience in Ethiopia is an asset
  • Experience in multi-sectoral programming is an added advantage (including GBV)
  • Languages: Fluent English (written and spoken) mandatory
