Employment as a Law Enforcement Support Officer with the Royal Borough of Greenwich

We protect people and places from danger The Royal Borough of Greenwich is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and compassionate people for several roles within the Safer Spaces service, part of the Council’s Community Safety and Environmental Health Division. Our mission is all about keeping people and places safe, while striving to be “the best or the best” in the services we provide every day. Following the introduction and expansion of the service since 2020, Safer Spaces has grown into a team of committed professionals, providing trauma-informed law enforcement and problem-solving throughout the borough, as well as monitoring of public space thanks to one of the largest CCTV systems operating in London. Originally operating primarily in city centres, the success of the Safer Spaces service has seen the unit grow rapidly in terms of coverage, including more recently our areas, but also to support a growing nighttime economy. The future of service is both strong and engaged, with plenty of opportunities for staff to grow and gain experience. Being at the heart of the Council’s “integrated enforcement” model, Safer Spaces officers work with enforcement teams and partners, including our own dedicated police teams and other local police teams. Each Safer Space Service Officer has a key role to play, taking individual ownership of law enforcement issues by the individual community as well as providing highly visible patrolling, problem solving and community engagement to other times. The work is challenging, will undoubtedly test your abilities, but will also offer you a diversity of roles but also a real sense of accomplishment at the end of a busy week. As a people-oriented service, we care passionately about giving you the tools you need to succeed. The service invests heavily in staff training, both initial and ongoing, as well as providing the best we can in terms of uniforms and personal protective equipment. We are also proud that many officers who join the service progress in time to higher roles within the unit, or move on to more specialized roles elsewhere within the Council or further afield.

The Application Support Agent plays a key role within the Safer Spaces service. He assists the department head and the operations manager in a wide range of administrative tasks and projects. A working knowledge of relevant environmental and anti-social behavior legislation, as well as the ability to support the legal team, are essential criteria and candidates should have exceptional communication skills in all modes. It is a friendly, proactive and fast service, so the ability to organize workloads and operate with minimal supervision is essential.

Royal Borough of Greenwich reserves the right to close any vacancies before the advertised closing date in the event of a high number of applications received.
