Duncanville City Manager Appoints New Police Chief

Duncanville, Texas (January 10, 2022) – The city of Duncanville today announced the permanent appointment of Mark LiVigni as Chief of Police. Mr. LiVigni has been with the Duncanville Police Department since 1993, most recently serving as Acting Police Chief since March 2021.

After selecting twenty-six candidates from three finalists who went through a battery of interviews, including a meeting with the community, City Manager Aretha R. Ferrell-Benavides chose Mark LiVigni as the new police chief.

“Chief LiVigni’s professionalism and commitment to our city made him an ideal choice for a permanent appointment as Chief of Police,” said City Manager Aretha R. Ferrell-Benavides. “I am truly delighted to see his vision for our police service become a reality and have a positive impact on the lives of the residents of Duncanville.

“I have had the honor of working alongside Mark for many years now,” added Deputy City Manager and former Police Chief Robert D. Brown, Jr. “I have no doubts that our new Chief of Police will innovate. and enhance the Duncanville Police Department. “

US Air Force veteran Chief LiVigni has over twenty-eight years of police experience, all serving the citizens of Duncanville. He has served in all sworn ranks in the department and is only the second person in the history of the department to do so with this appointment. He is also a graduate of several high-level professional training courses, including the FBI National Academy, the Senior Management in Policing training from the Police Executive Research Forum and the Executive Leadership training from the Institute of Law Enforcement Administration. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas.

An official swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, February 3, 2022.

Police Chief LiVigni recently promoted Matthew Stogner to Deputy Chief Constable. Mr. Stogner holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration and a Texas master of peace certification. He graduated from the Senior Management in Policing program at the Police Executive Research Forum in Boston, Massachusetts. Matthew Stogner most recently served as SWAT Commander and served as an officer, sergeant and lieutenant during his 22-year career.
