Christmas lights come on in eastern Kentucky to support local law enforcement

LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) – Following the success of last year’s “Lights Around London” tour, officials have decided to bring the event back for another year.

“We are coming back for 2021,” said Chris Robinson, executive director of London Tourism. “We will have between 50 and 60 participants throughout the community and people will be able to see the exhibits and have fun while doing it. “

From December 4th, home and business owners in the London area will have the opportunity to show off their decorating skills while competing for prizes and raising funds.

“We have out of town judges judging for us and we also have the crowd favorite judge with dollar votes that raises money for Shop with a Cop,” said Robinson.

All proceeds will go to the region’s Shop with a Cop program. Last year, the city raised over $ 6,000.

“It seemed like a fun event to attend,” said Shop with a Cop secretary Jamie Harrison. “Let people go out and see Christmas lights and social distancing at the same time and benefit a good nonprofit. “

Harrison’s family started the Shop with a Cop program over 20 years ago and it has grown into more than an annual gathering for him and his family.

“It started in 1996 with my uncle and a bunch of his co-workers, friends,” Harrison said. “He’s not with us anymore, so it’s just a legacy, it’s part of Christmas every year for me and my family.”
