The post office

Brent Council owns four cemeteries, operates four closed church yards and a cemetery on behalf of the London Borough of Harrow. As a member of the back office team that makes cemetery reservations, processes memorial requests and issues legal deeds, and will work with operational teams in the field to provide efficient and responsive cemetery service .

In addition to burial and memorials, the Council is also responsible for the maintenance of the grounds and buildings of the cemetery, including the chapels. The position reports directly to an experienced cemetery officer.

The position requires a general knowledge of good administrative procedures and being able to understand the legal processes for granting, exercising and transferring exclusive rights to a burial, as well as knowledge of the rules and laws of burials and security commemorative.

In support of the Cemeteries Officer, the position will be required to enter, review and modify data systems, burial records and personal information in the recently updated Council systems.

The incumbent will be responsible for placing purchase orders, managing and recording revenue to ensure all charges are collected, paid and reconciled.

As a bereavement service, the Post will meet grieving customers who may need caring and compassionate support.

The person

As an experienced administrator, the person should be able to understand many problems encountered in cemeteries. Experience in a similar position would be an advantage but essential.

The person should have strong administrative skills and be able to prioritize tasks while managing a busy workload. Including understanding of billing, purchasing and asset management.

When dealing with remote teams within cemeteries, the person should be able to give clear and specific instructions and be able to communicate effectively.

Recording funerals and taking reservations requires accurately entered information and a detailed understanding of the requirement, so attention to detail is essential.

The person will have to demonstrate that they can work under pressure but keep accurate records and ensure that the needs of the service are met.

Dealing with grief can be emotionally difficult, but it also comes with many rewards in knowing the help that service can provide.
