Business Support Officer job with Lancashire County Council

This role presents an exciting opportunity to work in business administration within the Adult Mental Health Services Authority to provide a high level of administrative support to social care service managers in mental health services, and mainly to operational managers of AMHP services on a daily basis. This includes routine administrative tasks to support the AMHP service, production of performance data and business support to senior mental health managers and AMHP team leaders – as well as ad hoc business activities to support teams more broad within mental health.

The successful position holder will work under limited supervision to be responsible for administrative support with clerical/financial activities within the mental health business support team while working closely with senior management staff, team leaders and operational staff in a highly confidential environment.

Duties may include instructing and checking the work of other colleagues, preparing, compiling, researching and reconciling information, statistics, reports or accounts, creating and maintaining financial records, monitoring budgets, producing management/financial information, handling inquiries and correspondence, managing diaries and providing support to senior officers.

Additional information regarding the responsibilities of this position is included in the attached job description, but can be summarized as follows:

  • Ensure that assigned work is carried out efficiently – both with a high level of accuracy and within established deadlines.
  • Collecting and monitoring information to ensure the authority meets its legal obligations to provide Registered Mental Health Professionals (AMHP).
  • Provide general administrative support within a team, including covering essential tasks for higher/lower level colleagues and peers as required.
  • Support team leaders in monitoring, reviewing and developing administrative procedures and systems.
  • Maintain, update and extract information from systems/databases and provide statistical information as required with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Provide complex word processing support in all aspects of the role. This includes the use of a full range of software packages, such as all Microsoft Office products and other products required by the role.
  • Interpret information accurately to provide high quality administrative support to adult mental health social care operational teams.
  • Manage individual workloads to meet required deadlines with limited supervision and use initiative to resolve issues without reference to line manager whenever possible.
  • A commitment to confidentiality and discretion at all times.

Although the role has agreed on fixed hours, job holders should be flexible as there may be times when the department requires the job holder to work outside of normal core hours to ensure that a specific urgent task is accomplished.

The position is based on a main site, but it may happen that the incumbent is required to support a team in a commercial activity on another site.
