Brandon Schaefer named new Dist. 62 Student Services Coordinator

Brandon Schaefer has been named Student Services Coordinator at April 18 Des Plaines Dist Elementary School. 62 School Council meeting.

In this role, Schaefer will be responsible for the administration and oversight of special education programs and services in accordance with federal and state rules and regulations.

“I am very excited to have this new opportunity to join Dist. 62,” Schaefer said. “I intend to bring my experiences as a special education teacher and administrator to my new role and to continue to help special education students develop their academic skills, as well as their social and emotional skills.”

“I am delighted to welcome Brandon Schaefer to the Department of Student Services to help serve special education students at Dist. 62,” Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Ellen Swanson said. “Mr. Schaefer brings a wealth of experience, training, and knowledge to the district and the Student Services Department. He has an especially strong skill set when it comes to working with students who have emotional and behavioral needs. important and held a similar administrative role in his previous district.

For the past six years, Schaefer has worked as a special education administrator in District 300, serving special education students in six buildings. He has worked with parents, families and school staff to ensure that every student’s needs are met and supported at school. Schaefer has worked closely with building and district administration to ensure that every student has access to a successful learning environment.

Schaefer earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from Illinois State University. He worked as a special education teacher from 2009 to 2016, working in an alternative school for middle and high school students and in a self-contained elementary classroom for students with social and emotional needs. During this time, he completed his master’s degree at Concordia University in Chicago’s Directors’ Preparation Program and earned his administration certificate.

Schaefer concluded, “I can’t wait to begin this new journey and serve the Dist. 62 community.

Schaefer lives in Arlington Heights and enjoys spending time with his wife Rachael and children Emma, ​​Timothy and Madison.
