Arsenal and Lavazza unite to support the local community | News

Italy’s leading coffee brand, Lavazza, continues its longstanding partnership with Arsenal by joining forces to support the local communities surrounding the Emirates Stadium.

Lavazza and Arsenal aim to create new opportunities for young people in North London through an initiative inspired by their shared commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

A Cup of Learning is a series of barista training programs designed to improve the skills of young people, helping them find long-term employment opportunities.

This is a Lavazza Group program developed in 2017 and it is now present in 12 countries around the world.

After a successful pilot in 2019, ‘A Cup of Learning’ was re-launched in February this year and saw a group of young adults under 25 from the North London community complete a 2-week training run by Lavazza’s expert baristas.

Graduates of the program also have the opportunity to take their barista exam, which will put them one step closer to rewarding employment in the industry.

Guided by two dedicated Lavazza training supervisors, participants learned all the fundamental skills needed to become a barista, including steaming milk, creating latte art, and understanding different blends of coffee beans. Participants also visited the Emirates Stadium on a match day to gain valuable insight into working in a rapidly changing hospitality environment.

A Cup of Learning combines Arsenal’s own community initiatives – including its long-standing local employability program which helps 84% of participants progress into employment or other opportunities – with the expertise and training in state-of-the-art hospitality from Lavazza.

The initiative illustrates the partnership’s commitment to helping young adults gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their job search in the years to come.

Lavazza and Arsenal are delighted to announce the extension of this program for a further three years.

Globally, the Lavazza Group has an ongoing goal of supporting communities through barista training programs.

Mario Cerutti, Lavazza Group Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability, said: “A Cup of Learning has been a key global project for Lavazza Group for many years and we are proud to see it continue to resonate in the UK. , thanks to the collaboration of Arsenal.

“We look forward to seeing this scheme grow further and become a real growth opportunity for members of the North London community.”

Jack Ferguson, Arsenal’s Community Employability Manager, added: “We are extremely proud of the participants who have stayed with us throughout the pandemic and graduated from the A Cup of Learning pilot scheme.

“Arsenal in the Community has a long-standing commitment to meeting the needs of the local community and our employability program plays a key role in this.

“It has been great working with Lavazza on A Cup of Learning and we are delighted to be able to continue working together to reduce the barriers faced by young adults in North London when trying to enter this difficult job market. .”

Since its commitment to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the Lavazza Group has embarked on a journey to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into its activities and processes.

Lavazza’s initiatives with Arsenal demonstrate this commitment, particularly raising awareness of Sustainable Development Goal number 8, which aims to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth and job opportunities for all.

These initiatives are just the start of Lavazza and Arsenal’s ongoing commitment to developing projects that support all of the Sustainable Development Goals in the years to come.
